A collective bid
The news is just in – our collective has been selected to host the Sustainable Tourism Universities (Universités du Tourisme Durable in French or UTD), organised by the Acteurs du Tourisme Durable (Sustainable Tourism Operators) association. The event will take place in October 2025 at Angers Convention Centre.
Shortlisted against Marseille, the Angers-Anjou bid, which is the joint initiative of Destination Angers through the Convention Bureau, ESTHUA and Anjou Tourisme, in association with Solutions&Co, came out top.
This victory helps to reinforce the positioning of Angers, Anjou and the Pays de la Loire region as eco-responsible destinations at national level, and of ESTHUA as Europe’s leading centre for higher education in tourism. It is a further demonstration of Angers’ reputation as “greenest city in France” and “capital of horticulture” and supports the goal of ecological transition. It is also in line with the eco-responsible approach of Destination Angers.
The organisation of this event is made possible thanks to the support of Angers Loire Métropole, the Department of Maine-et-Loire, the Pays de la Loire Region and ESTHUA.
Universities of sustainable tourism
UTD is a one-of-a-kind industry event in France, uniting public and private tourism professionals (destinations, accommodation providers, tour operators, service providers, etc.) that are committed to sustainable tourism or that wish to introduce sustainable practices or seek inspiration or concrete solutions for their business.
The programme will include :
- Conferences, round tables and workshops enabling participants to share thinking and experiences on the topic of sustainable tourism
- Visits to various local tourism operators to see initiatives integrating sustainable development in the area
- Networking
Over two days, the event will raise the awareness of tourism operators, promoting sustainable and responsible initiatives, observing industry trends and thinking collectively about the future. As well as bringing people together, it aims to foster idea sharing and the creation of partnerships.
