Nice spots to take a book, in Angers

Places to get warm in winter

So you’ve arrived in Angers for a few days, but the rain has put you off strolling the streets and exploring the city… Take the opportunity to take it easy for a few minutes… or hours somewhere relaxing and cosy.

We have hunted down a selection of great places where you can sit and relax in a warm atmosphere.

Myriagone

Push the door of Myriagone and discover this unusual place that is far from your traditional book shop. You immediately feel good in this hybrid venue combining a bookshop, café and art gallery. You can enjoy some relaxing reading over a coffee or debate how to make the world better over a freshly squeezed fruit juice. You can also view the exhibition of the moment devoted to graphic arts, which runs alongside the extremely selected collection of books chosen by Andréas Lemaire, the Myriagone’s passionate owner. Children are welcome too – the collection of illustrated children’s books is sure to keep them happy.

16 rue Bodinier, 49100 Angers
Open Tuesday to Saturday
Tuesday from 4 pm to 7 pm

Médiathèque Toussaint

Head to the atrium of the municipal library, just steps from Angers Castle. We love it there! You’ll enjoy a restful view of the garden of the Musée des Beaux-Arts and its many plants. Before you, just books and greenery – a real haven of peace for a cultural break. Of course, this wonderfully serene library boasts a wide choice of books for you to borrow and is even open every second Sunday of the month.

49 Rue Toussaint, 49100 Angers
Read opening hours of the media library

The Toussaint media library will close its doors in January 2024 until the end of 2026 for major renovation and extension work. A city center library, Place Saint-Eloi, will welcome you from February 27, 2024.

Café cardinal

It’s impossible not to visit the café cardinal, either, with its minimalistic, bright and modern interior. Whether near the front window or in the room at the back, the atmosphere is perfectly suited to relaxing with friends or family or to reading or working on your own.

While café cardinal is known in Angers for its soothing atmosphere, the menu is something altogether different!

Let the smiley baristas Nicolas and Simon guide you in the choice of a really good coffee, tea or latte. Delicious!

4 bis rue des Arènes, 49100 Angers
Open Tuesday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 9.30 am to 1 pm
