The Parc du Fresne provides habitat to many birds and mammals including some rare varieties of bats. It is also known for its diverse collection of trees and in particular its giant plane tree which is one of Anjou’s listed remarkable trees. It is said to be the largest plane tree in Maine-et-Loire and the second largest in France. Experts consider it to be 300 or even 400 years old. A no-go area has been created beneath its foliage to protect superficial roots from trampling.
