These gardens came into being around the 17th century, born of the "jeu du mail", a now obsolete French lawn game. The fountain, by Barbezat, and the large pond (1855) make up the central axis where the geometrically-arranged paths converge. The paths flanked by greenery, the flower beds and the exceptional floral displays in summer are worth a visit.
